2009 PARTNERS MEETING


Save the date! This year’s Waterfront Trail Partners Meetings will be taking place on October 27th and 28th. In order to reduce travel times for our partners, we will be hosting two meetings:

October 27th – Ontario West
Location: Niagara, Creekside Estate Winery, 2170 Fourth Ave. Jordan, www.creeksidewine.com
Time: 9:30 am - 1:30 pm (Niagara hospitality - Tour and barrell tasting of award-winning wines, 1:30 - 2 pm)

October 29th – Ontario East
Picton - Books and Company, 289 Main Street (Upstairs)
Time: 9:30 am - 1:30 pm (Picton hospitality - 1:30 - 2 pm)

TRUST SUBMITS WATERFRONT INVESTMENT PROGRAM – PHASE II TO INFRASTRUCTURE STIMULUS FUND

On the advice of our contacts at the province, the Trust has submitted the Waterfront Investment Program – Phase II to the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund through the not-for-profit stream. The program consolidates 25 projects from 15 partners in communities along the Waterfront Trail and Greenway and involves a total investment of $13 million. The program benefits include:

  • Moving the Trail closer to the water's edge in 12 areas
  • Building 22 kms of new trail
  • Establishing community and major regional trail links
  • Creation of 2 new waterfront parks; improvements to 16 others; 3 habitat restoration; improving universal accessibility
  • Construction of 2 bridges and improvements to 2 others
  • Cultural or natural habitat interpretation in 10 areas
  • Addressing two critical safety issues

Canada Square Project Begins: Waterfront Toronto and Harbourfront Centre have secured funding for the overall design of the Canada Square Project, a mixed-use cultural village with two urban parks on a 1.4 hectare site at York Quay within Harbourfront Centre.
