TRUST BEGINS MARKETING WATERFRONT INVESTMENT PROGRAM PHASE II

The waterfront partnership's proposal for the Waterfront Investment Program Phase II has been sent to the Ministries of Health Promotion, Tourism, Transportation and Energy and Infrastructure. Thanks to the projects supplied by the partners we have an exciting program involving 30 projects, 15 partners and an investment of $17 million on waterfront that will bring the:

  • Closure of 2 major gaps in the Waterfront Trail including the most contentious and dangerous one between Whitby and Ajax.
  • 14 projects move the Trail closer to the water’s edge
  • Over 15 km of new Waterfront Trail and trail linkages
  • 4 new waterfront parks
  • 2 bridges
  • Improvements to 18 parks
  • Interpretation of 8 waterfront habitats
  • 3 habitat restoration projects

We have proposed that the $5 million from the Province and/or Federal government to leverage the additional $12 from the communities.

2008 ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Following our tradition, the Trust is very pleased to present our collective accomplishments for 2008. Thanks to your generous support, your leadership and commitment, every year brings us closer to a regenerated waterfront. We have made excellent progress on the priority programs you defined for the Waterfront Trail and Greenway. We would also like to take this time to thank our partners who have demonstrated their commitment to the important mission of revitalizing Lake Ontario’s waterfront. None of this work would be possible without our partners. Thank you for your continued participation in and support for the Waterfront Trail and we look forward to building on our successes in 2009.
