Grimsby

You are here: Home / Community Profiles / Communities / Grimsby

Trail passes along pretty residential streets, some of which feature the cheerfully coloured historic cottages of Grimsby Beach that were once part of a religious camp.  You can enjoy another piece of history at the Pumphouse at Forty Mile Creek Park. This facility has been restored to its 1930’s splendour and houses photographs and panels explaining the area’s history. Travelling through Grimsby on your Waterfront Trail journey you’ll also enjoy waterfront parks, a local marina, a nearby connection to a splendid historic downtown and plenty of emerging cycling infrastructure. Year over year, Grimsby’s off-road Waterfront Trail is growing. At the edge of town, just inside the Hamilton border, you’ll also find Fifty Point Conservation Area, with a beach, marina, camping and walking trails.

The regional cycling map provides a comprehensive guide to cycling in Niagara. Both the Lake Ontario and Lake Erie sections of Waterfront Trail are clearly marked, as well as the connections on the Niagara River Recreation Path and the Welland Canal Trail. The map is also available as an downloadable interactive PDF map for iPhone and iPad devices.

The Niagara Cycling Map is also available for download on an interactive PDF map.

Tourism Niagara’s Cycling Route maps: Developed in collaboration with the Regional Niagara Cycling Committee, the Cycling in Niagara Map offers six different day trips in the region. It is available in English and French.

Connections

Forty Mile Creek Trail intersects with the Waterfront Trail at the mouth of Forty Creek and connects to the Bruce Trail near the Beamer Memorial Conservation Area

Bruce Trail (www.brucetrail.org) intersects with Waterfront Trail at Forty Mile Creek Park

The Greenbelt Route: This 475km cycling route connects businesses, farms and communities from the scenic Twenty Valley wine region in Niagara to the stunning vistas of Northumberland from Queenston to Roseneath near Rice Lake. In Grimsby the Greenbelt Route runs parallel and closely to the Niagara Escarpment, offering occasional glimpses of Lake Ontario far below. When following the Greenbelt Route, make sure to stop at Beamer Falls Conservation area for a quiet walk, view of the falls, and several stunning lookouts over escarpment country.

Self-Guided Bike Trips

The Region and it’s partners have developed an Online Library of Scenic Bike Routes, featuring hundreds of pre-selected routes, each one containing a map and turn-by-turn directions in PDF printable format. Check out this amazing resource!
