Quinte West

You are here: Home / Community Profiles / Communities / Quinte West

Located at the mouth of the Trent River in the Bay of Quinte, Quinte West is the hub of a number of natural and manmade waterways. In 1993, Quinte West began the process of regeneration by reclaiming the Trent Riverfront. It ripped up parking spaces that backed onto the shoreline and created a lovely landscaped and lit Trail that has helped revitalize the heritage downtown. Quinte West is great overnight stop with a range of hotel accommodations, services, heritage attractions and loads of nature trails to explore.

Home to one of Canada’s busiest Military airbases, you’ll discover a fascination for aviation by watching the many different kinds of aircraft in the area. Be sure to check out Canada’s National Airforce Museum—a favourite attraction of our Great Waterfront Trail Adventure participants.

Currently, there is a gap in the Trail between Quinte West and Belleville. However, cyclists can travel to Belleville using CR 3 on the south side of Murray Canal or by using Hamilton Road. See Ride with GPS Quinte West route

The long-term plan is a dedicated route along HWY2 or closer to the shore.

The Trail to Quebec continues south through Prince Edward County along HWY 33 through Prince Edward County.

Ontario by Bike and Southeast Ontario has developed a number of cycling routes for the Region including 3 rides in Quinte West.

Be sure to check out the Lower Trent Trail and the excellent mountain biking trails at Batawa Ski Hill.

Connections

Jack Lange Memorial Trail

Millennium Trail — Runs along an old railway line and is best suited to hikers, ATV’s and snowmobiles. The surface is loose gravel making it a very rough ride for cyclists.

There are long-range plans to pave and separate motorized-vehicular use from pedestrians and cyclists. Once accomplished, this Trail will be designated as the off-road Waterfront Trail.
