The existing Waterfront Trail connection that travels east of Farewell St. and Harbour Rd. in Oshawa is currently closed for construction and will be realigned to a new route in the future.

Multiple construction projects are in the works near the intersection of Farewell St. and Harbour Rd. Residents and visitors are asked to adhere to posted signage and use alternative routes during this period.

Durham Region is implementing a new multi-use path as part of their rehabilitation of Farewell St. on behalf of the City of Oshawa. A new trail connection will be constructed further north on Farewell St. linking Second Marsh to the new multi-use path.

HOPA Ports is creating a new access to the East Wharf port lands near the intersection of Farewell St. and Harbour Rd by:

  • Extending Harbour Road as a 2-lane road 410 m east of the Farewell Street intersection within the footprint of the existing off-road Waterfront Trail, which is to be closed and rebuilt elsewhere.
  • Widening Farewell Street from an existing 2-lane road to a 4-lane road for 200 m south from the Harbour Road intersection to the East Wharf entrance gate.
  • Extending  Farewell Street as a 2-lane road 320 m south of the entrance gate within an existing vehicular right-of-way.

HOPA Ports’ construction activities are already underway, and the Farewell St. rehabilitation project is anticipated to begin later in 2025.

The new multi-use path and trail connection will improve trail connectivity, safety and access to Oshawa’s waterfront and natural areas, enhancing the experience for residents and visitors.
