Seguin

You are here: Home / Community Profiles / Communities / Seguin

The rolling hills and jutting rocks, peaceful lakes and woods and an open sky that invites the light of the stars at night; these are just some of the natural splendours you’ll experience during a stay in Seguin Township.

On the Trail in Seguin you’ll find stunning waterfront communities like Rosseau, get up close to the vibrant shores of two amazing lakes in the heart of Cottage Country–Lake Joseph and Lake Rosseau–and visit a procession of seven smaller, more intimate lakes, some with enticing wayside beaches, perfect for a quick dip. Oastler Lake Provincial Park is right on route, and a number of roadside eateries will tempt you to make a stop. Cottage resorts are found throughout, with a campground directly on route.

With so much simple majesty ready to see and explore, Seguin is the natural place to be cycling.

Trail Attributes

Distance:  46km

  • The Trail in Seguin Township mostly follows rural roads, though most can be seasonally busy.
  • Oastler Park Dr and Lake Joseph Road in particular can be busy, though much of the route on Lake Joseph Rd / Hwy 141 follows wide paved shoulders.
  • Rankin Lake Road is narrow, seasonally busy and includes some sharper turns. It is not maintained for cycling in winter. Recommended for cycling May-October only. Trail users are reminded to use at their own risk.
  • There are two distinct components to the Trail in Seguin: the route connecting through Seguin to Muskoka and Parry Sound, and the northern half of the Lake Rosseau Loop, a 66km signed signature loop connecting the communities of Rosseau, Windermere, Port Carling and Minnett.

Trail Tips:

  • The Humphrey Nature Trails are a relatively short distance (2km) off route, but make a for a great way to get out of the saddle and stretch your legs if you’ve been riding.
  • Whatta Pizza? That’s a question should probably answer yourself. It’s located right on route!
  • When travelling the Lake Rosseau Loop, we recommend travelling counter-clockwise as this makes negotiating some larger hills easier.

Connections

Park to Park Trail – This 230km trail network extends from stunning Killbear Provincial Park to Algonquin Provincial Park, joining it via two main entry points, Highway 60 near the Oxtongue River and Algonquin Park Access Point #4 – Rain Lake, a great place to pick up an Algonquin backcountry canoe or hiking experience. Much of the Park to Park Trail is open to hikers, cyclists (best for Mountain and Fat bikes) and ATVs, though some sections are restricted to motorized vehicles.  The Park to Park parallels the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail for sections of Oastler Park Dr and intersects with it at Rankin Lake Road. The Waterfront trail connects to or is nearby the Rose Point Trail and Seguin Trail sections of the Park to Park Trail.
