The section of Great Lakes Waterfront Trail between Nairn Centre and Worthington Road is closed due to bridge repair.
The City of Greater Sudbury is replacing a bridge on Spanish River Road (indicated on the map below) between August 10, 2020, with a projected completion of September 30, 2020. While the City has advised there is a detour in place, this detour makes use of sections of Highway 17 without paved shoulders. You will not find any other through roads in the area for alternatives.
For those planning to travel the route west we recommend wrapping up your trip with a visit to Espanola, or following the route southward with a visit to Manitoulin Island. For those taking the route from Sudbury westward, Centennial Park in Whitefish is an excellent stop point, right along the Vermillion River. The site is also a municipally owned campground, making for a wonderful potential overnight location (make reservations in advance!)
We will update the page with more information as it becomes available.
