Cyclists walking on the Burlington Lift Bridge

The Burlington Canal Lift Bridge will be closed to cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists from January to the end of March 2024.

From June to December 2023, the bridge will be operational and will be available to pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.

Motorists will encounter alternating lane closures during this period. Pedestrians and cyclists will be given on-site directions to safely cross the bridge.

All cyclists are required to walk their bikes through the construction zone and will not be permitted to ride on the roadways.

From January to the end of March 2024, the bridge will be closed to pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists as the bridge will not be operational from the beginning of January to the end of March 2024.

Those wishing to travel the Trail between Hamilton and Burlington during the closure may use the scenic connection through Hamilton and Burlington following HamBur Loop signage along the Red Hill Valley Trail, the Hamilton Escarpment Trail, along Ferguson Street and through Bayfront Park in Hamilton, and along North Shore Blvd. in Burlington including the newly-reopened bridge on Valley Inn Road.
