Update: Closure affecting the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail in Whitby, effective Monday June 21, 2021
Thickson Road to Boundary Road (Intrepid Park)
Ongoing construction and improvements underway in Whitby through summer 2021 will close the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail in Whitby between Thickson Road and Boundary Road (Intrepid Park).
Update: Trail between South Blair Rd and Thickson Road has reopened as of Friday June 18th, 2021. Ongoing construction and closures will continue east of Thickson Road throughout the summer. During this period of construction, Thickson Woods Nature Reserve will remain closed.
Improvements include:
- resurfacing, widening and regrading of the trail;
- installation of new benches, drainage ducts and wood guard rails;
- construction of additional rest areas; and
- planting new trees.
A suggested detour, used by some local cyclists, can be found on Ride with GPS. The 2.7km detour follows local roads where cyclists share the travel lane with vehicle traffic.
