Nairn Centre

You are here: Home / Community Profiles / Communities / Nairn Centre

With ties to the lumber and pulp and paper industries respectively, the Townships of Baldwin and Nairn and Hyman are small but welcoming communities where travellers can stop to refuel or enjoy a pleasant overnight stay. The Trail through this pair of townships approximately follows the Spanish River, offering the occasional tantalizing view of its banks. A series of creek and stream crossings, tributaries to the Spanish, contribute to a cheerful ride to the northeast of Nairn Centre. Winding through rural woodlands, be sure to travel these roads with an eye to spot wildlife.

Those stopping in Nairn will find a trio of campgrounds for overnights, a local restaurant and convenience store and a convenient rest stop and picnic area just west of the Highway 17 crossing of the Spanish River. In Baldwin you’ll find a popular trading post, as well as an alpaca and organic produce farm where you can book a tour for yourself and your family.

In 2021 there is a long-term closure due to ongoing construction on the route in Nairn Centre that affects continuity of the route with an estimated completion date of June – July, 2022. Ultimately this will result in an improved experience for all cyclists. In  the interim, we suggests  westbound cyclists enjoying exceptional cycling between Sudbury and Whitefish, and that Eastbound cyclists pick up their trip south in Manitoulin Island.
