Saugeen Shores is a vibrant waterfront destination comprised of the communities of Port Elgin, Southampton and Saugeen Township. With each community boasting its own unique characteristics, a visit to Saugeen Shores is sure to delight people of all ages, from families to cyclists to retirees. From sandy beaches and unbelievable sunsets to marine heritage, the Chantry Island Lighthouse and quiet and tranquil green spaces and trails, there’s plenty to explore in Saugeen Shores. Cyclists won’t want to miss the craft brewery, bake shop and bicycle shop located in the heart of downtown Southampton!

Come embrace the heart and spirit of the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail with a ride on Lake Huron’s coast.

Trail Distance: 27km

Mainly on rural and residential roads, the Trail in Saugeen Shores also includes a lovely off-road forest trail between Gobles Grove and Port Elgin, the remarkable North Shore Trail, a 6km asphalt bi-directional multi-use trail connecting Port Elgin and Southampton right at the water’s edge, and a special detour: a beautiful 2km section of pedestrian-only beachfront boardwalk along Southampton’s shoreline. Cyclists, you’ll want to get off your bikes for this one.

Explore the Bruce

Saugeen RailTrail: The Saugeen RailTrail is an 8 km off-road multi-use trail connecting the hearts of Southampton and Port Elgin with the Bruce County Rail Trail and Great Lakes Waterfront Trail.

Bruce County Rail Trail: An off-road gravel multi-use trail linking several communities in Bruce County from Kincardine (near the Bruce Power Facility) to Port Elgin, Southampton, Paisley, Walkerton, and Mildmay before terminating near the village of Clifford.

The 2013 Saugeen Shores Watefront plan guides the Town of Saugeen Shores in enhancing the waterfront and link the communities of Southampton, Port Elgin and Saugeen Township to protect the waterfront for residents, visitors and future generations.
